The Red Sox hoped to be able to go into the All Star break with some positive momentum, but they were unable to do it last night against the White Sox with Clay Buchholz on the mound. Buchholz struggled early on and the offense was once again no where to be found. The Sox are currently 1-6 on the homestand and look like a team going no where fast.
Buchholz allowed the 4 runs with 2 bad pitches. Clay gave up a solo HR in the 2nd inning to Adam Dunn. Then in the 4th inning the White Sox blew the game open when Viciedo hit a 3 run HR off of Buchholz. White Sox 4-0. After the 4th inning Buchholz settled down and ended up retiring 10 straight batters, however it was too little too late. Buchholz pitching line for the night was 111 pitches, 7 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 1 BB and 7 Ks. It wasn’t a stellar performance or even a quality start, but it wasn’t horrible. Felix Doubront came out of the bullpen and pitched and pitched two scoreless innings to put an end to the pitching side of the game.
As for the Red Sox offense, they once again were no where to be found. The White Sox starter, Scott Carroll had an ERA over 5 coming into this game, but that didn’t stop him from looking like ace material against the Red Sox offense. The Red Sox were only able to get 2 hits against him and only once were able to get a runner to 2nd base and that was when Jackie Bradley Jr stole 2nd base. It was a pretty weak performance from the offense, which has become a trend this year.
