Felix Doubront has said openly that he does not appreciate the bullpen role that he has been given by the Red Sox for much of the season. Doubront indicated that he considers himself a starter, so if he is not to start with the Red Sox he would like to be traded to a team where he would be given that opportunity. Doubront has also had some poor showing on the mound when he has been called upon from the pen. Doubront had one of his worst outing of his career in 2/3 of an inning on Monday night where he gave up 8 runs to the Blue Jays in the series opener.
It looks as if Doubront has been given his wish. It was announced that Doubront has been traded to the Chicago Cubs for a player to be named later. As a power lefty the change of scenery might be just what Doubront needs. He’ll also be reunited with Theo Epstein who was the GM when Doubront was signed. Doubront won’t be eligible for arbitration until 2015 and won’t be a free agent until 2019.
