I am pretty sure the Red Sox are never going to win another game, ever. It sure feels like that sometimes, doesn’t it? The Red Sox were up against Jered Weaver of the Angels and were able to battle back to the tie the game, but Koji Uehara had one of his rare hiccups and allowed the go ahead run in the top of the 9th. Rookie starter Allen Webster held his own against Weaver, so that is victory all in itself, however it doesn’t change that the Sox have now lost another game in a one run fashion.
The Sox went out to an early lead when David Ortiz does what David Ortiz does and hit a solo homerun to the Monster. Unfortunately the Sox weren’t able to keep the lead in the 3rd when things went sideways on Allen Webster. The Angels tied the game when Calhoun hit an RBI single and then they went ahead when Trout hit an RBI triple. Sox 1-2. The Angels scored one more run in the inning when Pujols was initially called out at 1st, but under review he was called safe and a run scored on the play. Sox 1-3. The Sox got one of those runs back in the 5th when Napoli hit an RBI groundout to score Pedroia. Sox 2-3. The Sox tied the game in the 6th when they chased Weaver from the game and Brock Holt hit an RBI sac fly to center to score Bogaerts. Sox 3-3.
Webster was done after 6 innings and the game was now in Alex Wilson’s hands. Wilson pitched a scoreless 7th and 8th innings before handing the ball off to closer Koji Uehara. Koji wasn’t his usual lock down self and the Sox would pay for it. Koji got 2 outs, but he wasn’t able to get the 3rd before allowing a run to score. He gave up a ground rule double to Freese and then an RBI double to Iannetta to put the Angels out in front. The Sox tried to rally in the 9th, but came up just short and lost another one run game.
