Sox Lose While Rays Pitching Shines

The Red Sox won the first game of the series, but were unable to make it two in a row when Webster struggled and Odorizzi shined in Saturday’s matchup.  The Sox were almost no hit, but ended up still getting only one single hit by Will Middlebrooks who came in to pinch hit for Dustin Pedroia who left the game due to a possible concussion.

The Rays got on the scoreboard in the 2nd inning when Webster seemed to absolutely lose control and the strike zone.  Loney hit an RBI double to score Longoria, Hanigan hit a sac fly to bring Loney home and then Zobrist hit into a RBI sac groundout to score Guyer.  On the Hanigan sac fly Pedroia would also leave the game when Pedey was hit in the head by Forsythe when he was coming in to 2nd.  Sox 0-3.  The Sox got their one and only hit in the 4th inning when Middlebrooks hit a single, however they were never able to get anything else going.  In the bottom of the 4th the Sox added another run when Zobrist hit an RBI sac groundout to score Forsythe.  Sox 0-4.

Alex Wilson took the mound in the 5th inning after Webster once again found himself in trouble, but the Rays would end up adding a couple more runs.  Guyer got on by way of a bunt single and then Ross overthrew to 1st and 2 runs scored.  Forsythe hit a sac fly and the Rays were leading 7-0.  Wilson pitched a scoreless 6th anf 7th and then Tommy Layne pitched a scoreless 8th to finish out this lackluster game.  Webster was inefficient and allowed 6 runs, but at the same time the Sox bats could only muster one hit.

Red Sox 0  Rays 7  BOXSCORE
