Adam Jones Takes a Page From Big Papi and Hits 2 Homers in Sox Loss

The Red Sox the night before when David Ortiz took the team on his back and hit 2 homers.  Last night, the Orioles would so similarly when Adam Jones hit 2 homers and the O’s easily coasted to victory.  The Sox had Rubby De La Rosa on the mound and he continued to struggle down the stretch.  De La Rosa was lauded as one of the stellar young arms early in the season, but so far he hasn’t lived up to the hype.  De La Rosa would only last 4 innings and during that time he gave up 4 runs.

The Red Sox were the ones who got out to an early lead, but it wouldn’t last.  In the 1st inning Mookie Betts walked and then David Ortiz does what David Ortiz does, he hit a 2 run homer to put the Sox up 2-0.  That was the 35th homer of the season for Ortiz.  Unfortunately it only took a couple of innings for the O’s to tie the game and then take the lead.  In the 3rd the O’s tied the game when Adam Jones hit a 2 run homer off of De La Rosa.  Sox 2-2.  The O’s then took the lead in the 4th when Walker hit a solo homerun and then Schoop hit a sac squeeze to score Flaherty from 3rd.  Sox 2-4.

That would be it for De La Rosa and Heath Hembree took the mound in the 5th.  Hembree would have some trouble of his own as Adam Jones hits his 2nd homerun of the night to now have the O’s leading 6-2.  Steven Wright came out and pitched a scoreless 6th inning, but then gave up the final run of the game in the 7th with an RBI double to Nelson Cruz.  Sox 2-7.  Steven Wright finished out the game with a scoreless 8th,  but there would be no rally or fight from the Sox in this one and the O’s won easily.

Red Sox 2  Orioles 7  BOXSCORE
