UPDATE – Oregon has suspended Blount for the remainder of the 2009 college football season. Good.
UPDATE 2 – The Gameday crew reported that Blount was a Senior. His college career is over.
I’m sure by now you have all seen the video of the “unconscionable action” taken by LeGarrete Blount of Oregon last night. If you have not, I recommend stopping by Eleven Warriors for their excellent coverage.
Afterwards, Blount apologized to the media.
Is it just me, or does this apology sound more than a little hollow? After being ejected from the first practice of the summer, and then this, he decides to say:
Well, I’ll tell you what, that’ll never happen again. I’ll never lose my head like that again…
Really? I hope that isn’t what you said the first time. But even then, you seem to be completely unable to control yourself, including when you’re being dragged off the field by players, coaches and the local cops.
Now, I’ve avoided talking about what the Boise State player did. Obviously it wasn’t cool when his coach whips him around to chew him out on the spot. But, two wrongs clearly don’t make a right, and Blount’s action was way out of line for anything that could have possibly been said to him. I understand the emotions after losing a game on the field that way (seriously Oregon? What was that? It sure wasn’t Offense), but you still do not under any circumstances go that route.
Hopefully Blount can learn from this and make something of his career in the future.
As for Oregon, go back to the drawing board boys. You guys look terrible. And yes, I am talking about the uniforms.
