Your Morning Dump... Greg Stiemsma is packing up his apartment

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.

Greg Stiemsma will be in Boston for the next few days to pack up his apartment, but the free agent center doesn’t want Celtics fans to read anything into the move.

“It’s just that I have a month-to-month lease and I’m not going to be there in July at all so I can save a little money by getting out of my apartment,” Stiemsma said. “I’m hoping to re-sign on a new lease soon.”

In order to re-sign a lease, Stiemsma first would need to re-sign with the Celtics. The 6-foot-11 rookie is a restricted free agent and the Celtics will need to extend a qualifying offer of $1.05 million by June 30, which should be little more than a procedural formality. Free agency begins on July 1, at which time Stiemsma will be able to negotiate with other teams, but the C’s will have three days to match any offer sheet.

Something tells me Greg Stiemsma won’t be flat broke after his NBA career. He’s going through the hassle of moving to save one month’s rent.

Re-signing the Steamer for $1.05 million is a no-brainer for Danny Ainge. Unless another GM is willing to pay Stiemsma more cash and more years, he’s going to be back. I just don’t see that happening.

As for his foot injury, Stiemsma is still in a walking boot. If his health continues to improve, he’ll play for the Olympic select team July 6 – 11 in Las Vegas.
