Yep, we’re witnessing a growing trend in the NBA. Players are spending the doldrums of the NBA offseason showing off, holding clinics, and just marketing (their personal brands, and the companies they represent)
Rondo’s gone from Taiwan to the Philippines (which, incidentally, is where our largest non-U.S. audience is from. Magandang umaga!), other Nike guys are in China, Kevin Garnett, who you know wears China’s Anta brand, always makes a trip to China as well.
Because these guys are super rich, they can pay whatever trainers they want to pay to go with them. Because basketball is one of the world’s most popular sports, it’s not difficult to find a place to work out. And because these guys have a chance to win over lifetime fans who could make them next-level popular, going on these trips is a no-brainer.
And it gives us something to write and talk about… or at least in this case, something cool to look at. Because that’s one crazy dunk.
