GreenLight Madness: Sweet Sixteen – Seed #3 vs Seed #14

The top two seeds have advanced again but today’s matchup might be a bit closer than the other two.  These two plays by Rajon Rondo were huge at different points during the playoffs, but both were clutch in different ways.  Keep in mind on the #14 seed, you’re voting for Rondo’s clutch three-pointer ONLY vs Philly, not the entire compilation.  I just didn’t make a new clip for the three alone, so just focus on that part only.  Either way, it should be a fun matchup.

Seed #3 – Rondo’s Clutch Tap Pass to Pietrus: In the previous matchup, we saw Paul Pierce drill a clutch three to give the Celtics the Game 5 win at Miami.  That may not have been at all possible if not for one of Rondo’s greatest plays in his playoff career.  The Celtics were down by 6 with just about 6 minutes left in the game when Brandon Bass went up for his patented two-handed power slam.  Dwyane Wade had other ideas and executed a perfect block on Bass.  As the ball popped out to the free throw line, Rondo out-jumped LeBron James and it one motion, tap-passed the ball out to Mickeal Pietrus on the right corner for a huge three to cut the lead in half.  The crowd went from explosively loud to STFU silent within seconds.  Just an amazing play that one Larry Bird must have been proud of.

Seed #14: Rondo’s Clutch Three, Game 7 vs Philly ECSF – Paul Pierce had just fouled out late in the fourth quarter of the deciding Game 7 between the Celtics and the Sixers.  At that point, the C’s were only up by 3 with 4 minutes left, hardly a guarantee to advance.  Rondo essentially took control of the game, scoring 11 points, grabbing 2 rebounds and confidently stepping into and drilling a killer three to finish off the Sixers.
