Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.
“Hyenas. Running in packs means that we help each other,” he (Garnett) said. “Since I’ve been here, we’ve built the code on what these great organizations have been built on — and that’s history. And that’s gained not by individual, but by team. And I just spoke upon that with everybody in here, without the coaches and everybody. Just letting all the new guys know what it is to be a [Celtic], reiterating that and letting them understand the severity of putting this jersey on and everything that comes with it. I won’t go into that — it’s none of y’all business — but I had to reiterate it tonight. I thought tonight was the perfect night to do that.”
Courtney Lee, one of Boston’s offseason additions, tried his best to explain where Garnett was going with his animal analogy, noting that the Celtics need to be like a “pack of hyenas, stalking its prey, circling around it, waiting for it to be at its weakest point, and then moving in for the kill, all at once, together.”
Lee added: “Then they get to eat the prey together. It’s all about acting together for the benefit of the team.”
ESPN Boston – Garnett: Hyenas and History
The Celtics should be embarrassed. Not for the 0-2 start, but for the fact KG felt the need to hold a players only meeting this early into the season.
Is it execution, effort or both?
I do know that you can’t blame only the new guys. Paul Pierce played one of the worst games of his career last night.
Rajon Rondo was absolutely torched by Brandon Jennings. Coincidentally, Rondo’s lackluster defensive performance comes one day after Doc intimated Rondo is more important to the offense. Even so, Rondo can’t be a turnstile on the defensive end:
“It starts with me. I have to do a better job on the ball,” he said of the Celtics’ defensive issues. “There’s a lot of things.”
“I’m going to try and set the tone defensively,” he said. “It’s all we can do. I have to bring something more than we’ve been doing. It’s about leadership, but I’m the point guard, too. I’m the first line of defense and I initiate the offense. I have to be better.”
We’re all frustrated. The coaches, players and fans. The Miami loss was acceptable. What we witnessed last night vs Milwaukee was not.
But… take some comfort that KG is on the case.
