The Matchup
Last time
The Celtics needed 7 games to beat the 76ers in the Eastern Conference semi-finals. Philly has lost 6 of their last 7 regular season games at the Garden.
This time
Get it to: Paul Pierce
You think Paul Pierce was happy to see Andre Iguodala – a defensive nemesis – shipped to Denver? The Truth can’t breath too easy, as Evan Turner is no slouch on defense. Pierce should have more freedom on the perimeter, because Turner isn’t as fleet-of- foot as Iggy. Pierce shot 2-12 in Wednesday’s game vs Washington. It’s highly unlikely that type of shooting continues.
Gotta stop: Jrue Holiday
With Iguodala gone and Andrew Bynum nursing a bum knee, Holiday has taken over this team. His minutes, points and assists (and salary) are up dramatically so far this season. He’s lighting quick with 3-point range. Watching him go head-to-head with Rajon Rondo is always fun.
The Wild Cards: Courtney Lee and Jeff Green
One of these guys has to deliver a big game, right? Jason Terry came through with 16 points on Wednesday. It’s time for Lee or Green to do the same. The Celtics need one of these guys to step up, because points are hard to come by vs Philadelphia.
How we see it goin’ down
There are some intriguing match-ups in this game, aside from the ones mentioned above. Will Lavoy Allen play KG as tough as he did in the playoffs? Can Jared Sullinger play effectively against Spencer Hawes mullet? Can the Celtics protect the ball against Philly’s stifling defense? Will Boston’s perimeter defense run Philly off the 3-point line?
I don’t have a good feeling about this one.
