The Matchup
Last time
The Celtics have won 5 straight vs Orlando, including all three match-ups last season. One of the victories was a 31-point beat down and another included a comeback from a 27 point deficit. Rajon Rondo missed all three games last season due to injuries.
This time
Get it to: Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett
Orlando rookie Moe Harkless will (attempt to) guard the Truth. The 19 year old Harkless is long and athletic, but very green. Garnett is opposed by second year center Nikola Vucevic, a “mediocre defender who fouls too much.” I see a big advantage for our Big 2.
Gotta stop: Aaron Afflalo
The Magic’s leading scorer (and big catch in the Dwight Howard deal) is having a decent season. According to the ESPN Insider scouting report, he’s a “tough wing with excellent outside shot and good handle; clever offensive player, much-improved finisher off the drive, draws fouls.
The Wild Card: The ex-Celtics
Did you know E’Twaun Moore is averaging 11 ppg and 29 mpg for the Magic? Props to John for seeing potential in Moore. Glen Davis is churning out 15 ppg and 9 rpg. He’s also averaging nearly 3 offensive rebounds per game. You just know these guys want to stick it to the Celtics.
How we see it goin’ down
The Celtics cannot sleep on Orlando. They are strong defensively and much better offensively when playing at home.
If the Celtics can channel 80% of the intensity we saw vs OKC, they’ll be able to beat the Magic.
