Eller’s Debut

The Blues lost again at home, but at least this time they made it to overtime and secured one point out of the possible two at stake. The scoreless streak continued well into another game for the Blues, and finally ended late in the third period to snap the drought at a bit over eight periods without a goal. Lars Eller tallied the only goal for the Blues in what could be deemed a successful debut for the youngster.

At least the Blues scores this time, right? It seemed like a thirf game was about to go by without seeing the red light come on, but thankfully the Blues scored in the third (on the power-play no less) to draw the game level after falling behind straight out of the gate in the first.  This power-play goal broke an ugly 0-for-26 streak with the man advantage, so hopefully at the very least it installed some confidence on the roster.

The team certainly had a wealth of opportunities, but whether the bounces are still not going the team’s way or whether Kiprusoff was just really on his game, the Blues yet again find themselves with a losing result. For those of you keeping track, this makes for a 1-5-1 record at the “friendly” Scottrade Center.

Sticking with the usual trend so far this season, the Blues fell behind early – just a few minutes in this time. The goal was credit to Jarome Iginla but a lot of the credit can go to Eric Brewer who attempted to slap the puck out but instead ended up ensuring the puck made it over the line. Hey, I guess you could say the Blues scored all three goals last night, unfortunately one was whacked into their own net and one was deflected in off of T.J. Oshie to give Calgary the win in OT. That might not be a fair analysis, but at least some of the explosive Calgary offense was kept in check.

It’s Friday, enough of being a downer and on to some positives.

Lars Eller deflected in an Erik Johnson shot for the Blues lone goal in the game, which at least earned the team one point. It was a solid performance for Eller in his first game, and you can’t really ask for any better lighting the lamp in your debut.

T.J. Oshie looked more like the Oshie we saw at the end of last season. He collected six shots last night while skating alongside Patrik Berglund and Eller. He made some nifty moves and generated plenty of chances, but unfortunately could not find the twine. If he keeps skating as he did last night, he should find his name on the boxscore soon enough.

Lots of positives to take away from this game despite the result, and hopefully the Blues can take the next step forward in their next game.
