Your Morning Dump… Where the Ainge/Riley feud is one step away from “Your momma” insults

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.

“Danny Ainge needs to shut the f— up and manage his own team,” Riley said in a statement issued by the team. “He was the biggest whiner going when he was playing and I know that because I coached against him.”

“I stand by what I said. That’s all. I don’t care about Pat Riley. He can say whatever he wants,” Ainge said in the runway shortly before the game.

Did he object to Riley calling him a whiner?

“What Pat said, that I whined and that I should manage my own team, is true,” Ainge said. “And what I said, that LeBron should be embarrassed about complaining about the officiating, is true.”

Ainge said he would keep it at the verbal level. Wearing frayed blue jeans and sneakers, he said, “I don’t want to mess up his Armani suits and all that hair goop. It would be way too expensive for me.”

ESPN Boston – Boston still gets Pat Riley riled up

You gotta love when the trash talk spills into the front office.

I can’t remember the last time an official team statement included an expletive. David Stern has to fine Pat Riley six-figures for that move. I also expect Stern to put the mute button on this whole thing.

As I said on last night’s Uburger halftime show, Riley’s trash talk has deflected all the attention from LeBron James. The Coddled One was getting crucified by media and fans (outside Miami) for whining about officiating. We were all reminded of how few foul calls LeBron James gets whistled for:

  • 1.5 fouls per game average for 2 seasons
  • fouled out of 1 game in 5 years
  • 17 games this season w/o a foul including 5 straight

Now what are we talking about?

Nice move, Riles.
