Double Scribble presents “In The Paint”

Good afternoon folks. The season finale of Fan Friday happens on 4/12. But this week, I want to hip you to a great event being thrown by Double Scribble. Nicholas Kastner & Michael McGrath Jr. make-up D.S. and are both contributors to the daily basketball artwork that the site features. “At least once a day”, the site posts various sketches and other basketball art from it’s many worldwide contributors.  This will be their second gallery event, and Cambridge’s Voltage will be hosting:

 Beginning Friday, April 19th two of Boston’s most time-honored traditions will be celebrated in tandem: art and basketball. Presented by the Cleveland-based basketball art blog Double Scribble (which has recently appeared on popular sports sites ESPN and SB Nation) and Cambridge institution Voltage Coffee and Art, “In the Paint: A Celebration of Art and Basketball” will feature local artists as well as others from around the country. The multi-media show will not only explore the passion and strong sense of community that unites fans and players, but will also allow non-fans to experience the unique “love of the game” that basketball inspires.

Boston, and Voltage in particular, was a natural fit for the traveling show. “Our mission at Voltage is to bring people together in one space, and through their separate passions engage in a dialogue in a discerning but nurturing environment, “ says Anna Schindelar, Voltage’s Art Director and Curator. “Besides being a huge basketball fan since buying my first Lisa Leslie’s, my involvement in this project was sealed after hearing how the Double Scribble community was built from its members. I’m a sucker for self-expression and people making public their interests and passions. Double Scribble, like Voltage, is a space where people can come together to celebrate their interest and love, and in this pairing it’s for art and basketball.”

The event takes place on Friday, April 19th at 7pm, and tickets can be purchased via Eventbrite. Voltage is located at 295 3rd Street in Cambridge’s Kendall Square. Proceeds from the event will benefit “Shooting Touch“-a Boston based charity that provides education and hoops training for underprivileged kids.
