A season to forget ended at the Garden tonight. I’m thankful because I just can’t take it anymore.
The Celtics played atrocious basketball for 39 minutes. The performance rivaled the worst of the worst in this decade. If Dan Dickau was on this team, Doc Rivers would have played him 44 minutes. The offense was that bad.
But… when trailing by 26 points in the 4th quarter, the never-say-die Celtics went on a run. A 20-0 run over a 4 1/2 minute span to be exact. I’m not sure how they did it, but they did it. Maybe seeing the immature, trash-talking antics by the going-nowhere Knicks was too much to stomach.
Avery Bradley was a huge factor. He riddled off 10 points and 3 steals during the near-miracle comeback. Where the hell was that effort this series?
But the Celtics eventually resorted to failed hero-ball and the Knicks made some shots to close out the game. At least they made NY fans shart their drawers one more time.
What can you say about this team? They are old, fundamentally flawed but gutsy as hell. Season ending injuries to Rajon Rondo, Jared Sullinger and Leandro Barbosa proved too much to overcome.
I’m not in the mood to play the blame game (my god, Paul Pierce was awful) or look ahead to next season (back-up point guard please). There is plenty of time for that.
