Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.
“It is so fluid,” said Stevens. “It can go day to day. It can really go day to day. Just when you think you’ve got one established, they’re not as fluid or they’re not as successful. We’ve got to continue to focus on the good things that are happening and figure out who’s going to be the most consistent.”
The Celtics closed out their exhibition slate by starting the five-man combo of Avery Bradley, Gerald Wallace, Jeff Green, Kelly Olynyk, and Vitor Faverani against the Brooklyn Nets. At the end of practice on Monday, those were five of the seven players (Brandon Bass and Phil Pressey the others) wearing green shirts that typically indicate starters.
“I don’t know the starting lineup for Wednesday yet. I really don’t,” said Stevens. “I’ve got an idea. It could be anything from what we started the other day, to making a change or two depending on how tomorrow’s practice goes.”
It’s never a good sign when your starting 5 is fluid one day before the season opener. I can see one spot being open, but 2-to-3 spots? Yikes.
I’d advise Stevens to roll out his most athletic group against the Raptors: Pressey, Bradley, Wallace, Green and Olynyk. Let’s have some fun.
Pressey may be shooting 22% this preseason, but I’d rather see him initiate the offense than watch Bradley methodically pound the basketball into the court.
In other news, the Celtics are still mulling punishment for Jared Sullinger:
“The final verdict was right before we got to practice so we haven’t had a chance to sit down,” Stevens said.
Charges were dropped because Sullinger’s girlfriend – who recently moved backed to Ohio – wouldn’t cooperate with investigators.
I don’t foresee a suspension for Sullinger.
