The score was tied at 92, 94, and 96 late in the fourth quarter, but the most remarkable shot of the night was a 3-pointer from Green with 1:18 left that tied the score at 99.
Green, a Georgetown star who was playing on his alma mater’s home floor, made it on one foot, facing two defenders, while he was off-balance and fading out of bounds. It was one of his career-high eight 3-pointers on a career-high 16 attempts.
“My old locker is right down the hall,” he said. “I live 10 minutes from here. It’s a lot of comfort here. It’s like my second home.”
It was clear that Green felt right at home.
“It was great — in front of my family, friends. I couldn’t have scripted it better,” Green said.
Said Wallace, “I think it feels good when you sleep in your own bed. He’s at home. He slept in his own bed last night. He came in well-rested and comfortable.”
Don’t ask it. I’m begging you, please don’t ask it.
You know, the “Why can’t Jeff Green play like that every night?” question.
For starters, there are only a handful of players in the entire league who play like that every night.
This is Jeff Green. An above average NBA player who, on occasion, can blow up and have a big night.
The Celtics could ask Green to ship his favorite bed, pillows, blankie and slippers up to Boston with the hopes it will make him play ‘comfortable’ in 41 games a year. But it won’t make a difference.
Just enjoy the performance and don’t ask for anything more because you/we aren’t going to get it.
On Page 2, why Rajon Rondo had a seat on the bench.
With nothing of banner weaving value on the line for them this season, the Celtics are taking no chances. The latest evidence of this came last night when it was decided that Rajon Rondo should not play a second straight night.
Rondo has shown no ill effects as he comes back from his torn right ACL, but he played almost 26 minutes in Tuesday’s loss in Miami.
“This is a sitting out on a back-to-back thing,” coach Brad Stevens said before the C’s took on the Wizards. “He played 25 minutes, which is a little bit more, but nothing structurally (was wrong). It was more about let’s make sure again to be very smart about this.
“The way we looked at it is — and we did this with Gerald (Wallace) in the preseason; he never played back to back — this is Rondo’s preseason right now. It’s not fair to him that it happens in the middle of January, but that’s the way it goes.”
