This week’s featured fan is Eric from Wellesley, Ma. Eric is a self professed Celtics addict, and has not missed a game since 1997. He’s been a season ticket holder for the last 8 years and has been following the Celtics since he was 10 years old. This guy truly eats, sleeps & breathes Boston Celtics basketball…
I fell in love with basketball when I was 10 years old. I began watching the team during the 1995-1996 season. I was instantly hooked and began watching every game. The first players I enjoyed watching were Dee Brown, David Wesley and Antoine Walker. As the games progressed, I began reading the history books about the Celtic’s legacy and all of the important figures that played a role in it’s success. I read biographies on Red Auerbach, Bill Russell, Sam Jones, Larry Bird, M.L. Carr and Tommy Heinsohn as well as many others. I began understanding the game of basketball at a new level and dreamed of one day being able to go to every game.
Eric tells me that his favorite Celtic is former player & current broadcaster Tommy Heinsohn. Heinsohn’s “passion” and “dedication” are among the many reasons that Eric calls Tommy his all-time fave.
My favorite Boston Celtic of all-time would have to be Tommy Heinsohn. I love the history of the team and Tommy played an important role throughout the early years of of Boston’s dominance. The way Tommy approached the game was phenomenal and the skill and focus he brought were unmatched. He made numerous key shots and played defense as hard as anyone. He also understood the importance of driving to the hole and the way to respond to teams throughout tough stretches during tough games. Tommy was the jokester on the team and always seemed to loosen the mood. Heinsohn’s been a key factor in what has become one of the most successful franchises in all of professional sports. I love Tommy’s passion and the dedication he has given throughout his time with the team. I admire anyone that’s played, coached and been a broadcaster for as long as he has. Tommy has 17 N.B.A. championship rings and will forever be remembered as a Celtic great.
Eric is one of many fans who call the 2007-08 NBA Championship their most cherished Celtics memory. It was the end of years of frustration and embarrassment for Celts fans, and the team’s return to glory.
My favorite Celtics moment is when we won the 2008 N.B.A. championship. I recall sitting through those finals games as nervous as could be as it was the first time in my life that we had made it that far. It was only a year previous that we sat through an 18 game losing streak and a 24 win season. As a child, I had constantly watched highlights and games from the 50’s, 60’s. 70’s and 80’s of our championship games and it was a dream come true to be there in person for the celebration. So many memories from my fan-hood ran through my mind throughout the duration of that series and everything full circled when the final buzzer sounded and we were world champions.
Being a Celtics fan has enabled Eric to meet “so many wonderful people” and he says the team has brought him lots of special memories. There is indeed a unique bond between us Celtics fans-it’s a wonderful fellowship that Eric is grateful to be a part of..
The Boston Celtics have become an important part of my every day life. I have developed a passion for the team that brings joy and excitement every single day. The Celtics have been a part of my life since I was a child and it’s been amazing to reflect on how many special memories I have watching the games over the years. I have met so many wonderful people and built relationships because of our passion for the Celtics. The Celtics bring you to a world where life is fun and stress-free. I love attending the games as it always gives me something to look forward to. I have not missed a single game since 1997 (I have had season tickets since 06-07) as the Celtics really are a way of life. The Celtics have gone through many ups and downs over the years and similar to me, they always set the bar high and strive for the best they can be.
