It's Friday and it's time to check in on the AL East standings once again:

The Red Sox came out of this week being 6.5 games up in the standings.  The Red Sox took care of business on their end while at the same time the Rays had themselves a real hard time out on the west coast.  The last 10 games the Sox have gone 8-2 while the Rays have gone 3-7.  That'll do wonders to get some distance in the standings.  The Sox swept the White Sox and then took a series from the Tigers.

The Sox won the first game of a 4 game series with the Yankees.  Following that they will head down to Tampa to play a series with the Rays.  As long as the Sox don't end up in a major slump, they should be able to stay on top of the AL East.  Clay Buchholz should return to the rotation during the Rays series, so that'll definitely be interesting to see how it plays out.
