Your Morning Dump..Where Marcus Smart Takes The Mound

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.

Marcus Smart heard his named called by the Commissioner of the NBA less than two months ago on Draft Night. When he received a call to throw out the first pitch at a Red Sox game, though, that caught him by surprise.

“I was a little bit nervous,” he admitted. “I was like, ‘Are you sure you got the right person? This is a big deal. Are you sure you want me to do it?’ They said, ‘Yeah we’re positive, it’s you.”

If Smart was in fact “nervous”, he certainly didn’t show it. Watch as he throws an absolute perfect strike before last night’s Sox-Astros game:

Marcus Smart has quickly become the toast of the town as his busy summer begins to wind down. Since being drafted 6th overall by the Celtics back in June, he’s played in the Orlando Summer League, where C’s fans began to really take to him, and drew rave reviews while participating on the USA Select squad. Now he’s “back” in Boston and quickly learning just how much we adore our athletes.

“They’ve been great, interacting with me on Twitter and Instagram,” the guard said before the game. “That just really shows a lot about Boston and the city itself. They really love their athletes and they just want to get to know you.”

Celtics fans have really had their share of heartache over the last few years. First, with the kick in the nuts that was the trade of Kendrick Perkins to the Thunder, then Ray Allen left and most recently, and the toughest of all to swallow, was the loss of Truth & Ticket. What does any of this have to do with Marcus Smart you ask? Here in Boston we become extremely attached to our sports heroes. They become family, and we treat them as such. Smart has all the traits that could very well make him the next fan favorite, and then some. He’s passionate about the game he loves, has a sense of humor and most importantly he’s 100% genuine. All things that I believe will have Boston fans enamored with the rookie guard.
