The Celtics faced probably their best competition of the season tonight. The Sixers are tanking preseason games and the Knicks are discombobulated mess trying to fit square pegs in round holes with their offense. The Raps, meanwhile, are division contenders and probably no worse than a 4/5 seed in the playoffs.
I’ll give it to the C’s, though… they hung tough. This was a total game of runs, with each team taking turns looking pretty good for a preseason game. In fact, as far as preseason games go, this one was pretty entertaining. In the end, though, the C’s gave up a 12-0 run in a turnover filled 4th to go down for good and ultimately lose, 116-109.
I’m going to be quick here because it’s Friday night and I need to hit the clubs!
Ok. It’s Friday night and I need to go hang out at the bar with my friends.
Ok. It’s Friday night and I need to go drink at a bar alone.
Ok. It’s Friday night and I need to drink alone in the dark while finishing my Comic Con outfit.
You guys can discuss points I glossed over in the comments.
The Green:
Avery Bradley’s second quarter was amazing. He came out cold, then he went ballistic in the 2nd quarter to go into the half with 20 points. That was it though, as he sat and watched most of the second half. He finished with 22 points. I’m openly wondering when Bradley gets slapped with the “streaky shooter” tag.
Jared Sullinger nearly had a triple double (10 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists). In fact….
Both Brandon Bass and Jared Sullinger have more assists tonight than they’ve ever had in a regular season game.

Bass had another “Bass”-type solid game with 14 points, 2 rebound, and 5 (FIVE!!) assists.
Marcus Thornton shot 7-13. He’s not going to be efficient this season… is he?
Tyler Zeller was 6-6 from the line!
The Gross:
The execution down the stretch was terrible. The C’s turned it over 6 times in the 4th quarter.
Tyler Zeller still looks less than great out there. This will be a process.
Marcus Smart was 1-7 from 3. I think Brad Stevens is encouraging him to play his game and keep shooting, but at some point, you gotta say “rein it in buddy”
The Grid: (quick stats)
- Evan Turner: 12 points (3-9 fg, 1-2 3 pt, 5-8 ft), 6 reb, 4 ast.
- Kelly Olynyk: 8 pts (3-7 fg, 2-3 3pt) 6 reb, 3 ast.
- Points in the paint: Toronto 46, Celtics 32.
