Early returns from training camp has Celtics coach (among others) doling out high praise for Marcus Smart’s defense. In the first preseason game against Philadelphia (I know, I know) he lived up to the hype. Granted, the clip below isn’t EVERY defensive possession as he did have some bad moments. Overall though, he was impressive as you can watch here. He has a lot of energy and his head is always looking around while checking his man and the ball. In several instances he fights over screens, sometimes more than one per possession. Later on, you could tell Philly was aware of him and started to become hesitant to run offense his way. Obviously it’s early and he’s still a rookie with 82 games (plus 7 more preseason games) to go, but this looks promising.
