Sobotka Heads to IR
It’s bad, but it probably could have been worse. Jeremy Rutherford reports that Vladimir Sobotka will be placed on the IR with an ankle injury. Thankfully, the team reports that his ankle is not broken. His timetable is currently scheduled at two weeks.
If you read yesterday’s article, you’ll know that Sobotka suffered the injury in practice when he took a shot off his left ankle. The team physicians don’t believe there is a break, which is a positive, but Sobotka is still going to miss somewhere in the neighborhood of two weeks.
Hopefully Sobotka’s situation won’t pan out like the Kent Huskins ordeal that saw the defenseman miss time with a similar injury, only to have it be revealed later that he did indeed have a break in the bone. Huskins’ injury was likely worsened by him returning too quickly, so Sobotka will likely be brought back a little more cautiously to avoid a similar situation.
