Blues Topple Fox Sports Midwest Television Record 

We all know the St. Louis Blues have been a huge success story on the ice. It turns out their success on the ice has translated to big wins off the ice as well, specifically in the form of ratings. Today the Blues announced that their battle with the Chicago Blackhawks on March 13th was the network’s most watched regular season game – ever.

The Blues had a 6.3 rating for their game against Chicago with the peak rating being a 7.84. This crushed the old record of 5.6 that the Blues set back in 2010 in a game against the San Jose Sharks.

It’s easy to see why the old record fell. First, Fox Sports Midwest is available to more homes than it used to be in years past and that number is growing as cable/satellite continues to become the standard. Add in the fact the Blues have been at the top of the standings for quite some time now and you suddenly have a ratings bonanza.

The news that the Blues broke their ratings for a regular season game isn’t surprising. Viewership has been up all season as the Blues have averaged a 3.4 rating and are currently on pace to break their ratings records for an entire season, as reported by this official statement from the team.

Hopefully, the team’s successful 2011-12 season, increased ratings and (hopefully) increased merchandise sales are enough for the team to finally end their hunt for a new owner. From an investor’s angle, the Blues are a great “buy low” candidate.
