Single Game Tickets on Sale Saturday, August 25th
The St. Louis Blues have announced that single game tickets for the 2012-13 season go on sale Saturday, August 25th. Tickets go on sale at 10:00am at the Scottrade Center box office and at noon at all other Ticketmaster outlets. Typically this announcement is a cause for excitement (sponsored) but the impending threat of a lockout has all but put a complete damper on the enthusiasm over single game seats being available.
The St. Louis Blues, as well as every other NHL club, are in an extremely awkward situation. They have to continue forward with their marketing objectives despite the fact the 2012-13 season is in doubt. At the same time their marketing efforts come off as rather uncomfortable considering how dismal the talks between the owners and players have been thus far.
I turned to Twitter to ask fans if they were planning on buying single game tickets with the current situation pointing to a shortened or locked out NHL season. The responses were pretty much what you’d expect. Some fans planned on buying tickets on the condition their money would be refunded if a lockout does occur (it would be). Other fans stated they were holding off until they knew a season was a certainty. One fan stated she would buy tickets but only one game at a time out of fear that a lockout could wipe out the full year.
Personally, I typically celebrate quite a bit when single game tickets go on sale simply for the fact it signals the season is approaching. I generally refrain from buying tickets through the team directly, instead opting to deal with more affordable options through StubHub and other ticket outlets as the season unfolds. This year I will not be buying any tickets until I know for sure that the 2012-13 season will take place.
