Your Morning Dump…Where Evan Turner can bounce back

ETC

ETC

very morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.

Some of biggest contributions came in the game’s final minutes as Chicago whittled a 19-point Celtics advantage all the way down to two. Turner sank a baseline jumper with 1:49 remaining to snap a three-plus minute scoreless drought, then hit two big free throws with 17 seconds to play to give the Celtics a two-possession lead they would not relinquish.

Turner’s successful transition to a full-time point guard — at least for one night — did not come as a huge surprise to Celtics coach Brad Stevens, who’s said for weeks that he thinks Turner is better with the ball in his hand than without it.

“My only advice to him before the game was when you’re running the point, you have to get people into things and then you get it back,” Stevens told reporters after the game. “When you’re off the ball, you have to have more of that idea of what’s coming next, and being able to make a play for somebody or score it or whatever the case may be. But when you’re at the point, you have some organizational responsibilities.

“So, he did a good job of that. He was in his hometown, and I think his time at the point in the preseason benefited him.”

NESN – Evan Turner proves more than capable for Celtics in Rajon Rondo’s absence

Last article I wrote was for Wednesday’s recap against Toronto, where Evan Turner was a complete disaster. Fast forward to now and I’m looking at a box score from last night’s win that reads: 19 points on 50% shooting, five boards, six assists, only two turnovers and a +13. Things likely would have been altered had Rose started, but even without him, it’s safe to say the Bulls have a deeper roster. Turner played well pretty much the entire game. Maybe it’s because he’s from Chicago (I can recall Jeff Green exploding in front of his Washington home crowd), or maybe it’s getting to start alongside his long time friend in Jared Sullinger.

Either way, it was nice to see Turner cash in a good  performance. It’s likely we’ll see a few more stink bombs from him this year, but now we know he can bounce back.

Page 2: James Young and Dwight Powell to the D-Leauge?

I’m sure it sucks going from starting in the NCAA Championship game to riding the bench on a rebuilding team. Young has only logged five minutes of regular season basketball (although he’s technically shooting 100% on 3-3 from the field). It;s not confirmed, but if he will actually be spending some time in the D-League, hopefully it’s just until Ainge can build up Marcus Thornton’s trade value for a contender. Right now Thornton’s getting 14 minutes a game. A few weeks for Young to get back into the groove of playing every night should be good. And hopefully he’ll have some minutes waiting for him when he returns.

Perhaps completely unrelated, but this is what James Young had to say after last night’s win:
