Rondo: “I slept with a ball in my bed..”

Rondo “I slept with a ball in my bed..” Red s Army The Voice of Boston Celtics Fans

CCTV recently aired an interview they did with Rondo while he was in China for his camp this past summer. Although most of the interviewer’s questions are in Chinese, it’s easy to tell what they were due to Rondo’s answers. In the interview, Rajon says that as a kid he “slept with a ball” and would immediately start dribbling it in his house once he woke-up. From there, he would hit the streets and bball courts, constantly bouncing the rock.

According to him, playing other sports also helped him to become a better baller. “I ate slept & breathed basketball, but I was always active-I played every sport possible. I think a little bit of football made me a little bit tougher playing basketball. Baseball made me a little bit smarter playing basketball. I think all of it ties in with me being the player I am.”

Rondo called the seasons he played alongside KG “the best years of my basketball career” and gave KG the title of “the ultimate teammate.” He also believes that Garnett will have his numbered retired by the Boston Celtics.

CCTV asks Rajon which teams he thinks will be a threat to the Celtics this season. The Cavaliers of course are mentioned, the Washington Wizards are another. The reporter then says “Maybe New York Knicks..?” Rondo’s response? “Nahhhh..nahhhh.” Classic Rondo.

When asked about the Miami Heat, Rondo’s face & affect clearly change.  Rajon tells the reporter, “Yes-I dislike.” The reporter says “you dislike the Miami Heat?” Rondo again replies “yes.” He explains that he is not friendly with too many opposing teams or their players. “I dislike every team I play against.” He goes on to say “when I go to war I go to war-I don’t take any prisoners.”

He talks a little bit about his camp, saying that he hadn’t seen/met any of the kids yet at that point, but that he was looking forward to working with them. He also states at the end of the interview that his recent signing with Anta means he’ll be holding many more camps in China.

The interview ends with Rondo being asked to name some of his favorite teammates. KG obviously is the first name he mentions, Keyon Dooling, Marquis Daniels & Perk are among others he lists. He’s then asked to name his toughest opponent-the guy that gives him the hardest time out on the court. His response? “Nobody.” He quickly elaborates, saying that he basically means that each & every night brings tough opponents. Sure Rajon….

Big thanks to my friends over at Hoop China for the link.
