Patrik Berglund is shaping up to be Mr. January 24th. He’s also shaping up to be Mr. Penalty Shot. Berglund scored on a penalty shot on Thursday against the Nashville Predators with a nice, hard shot that beat Pekka Rinne under his blocker. Ironically, one year ago to the day, Berglund also scored on a penalty shot, tallying one against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Berglund is now 2-for-3 in penalty shot attempts, as mentioned by Darren Pang.

Berglund didn’t play in a game on January 24th during the 2008-09 and 2009-10. On the 24th of January during the 2010-11 season, Berglund notched an assist in a 4-3 loss to the Dallas Stars. Finally, 2011-12 saw Berglund scored two goals, one on the penalty shot in the video above, in a 3-2 OT loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins.

We’ll have to wait a year to see if Berglund can round out his penalty shot hat trick on January 24th, 2014.
