Jason Arnott Signs with the New York Rangers

Former St. Louis Blues forward Jason Arnott has signed a one-year contract with the New York Rangers. Arnott previously skated with the Blues during the 2011-12 season, but the Blues elected not to offer him a new contract after the season concluded. Arnott’s contract, as reported by TSN’s Darren Dreger, is for one year and is supposed to be worth approximately $1.6 or $1.7 million.

Arnott scored 17 goals for the Blues during 2011-12, but his relationship with the Blues got a bit tense during the team’s run through the playoffs. Arnott suffered a minor injury and was scratched by the Blues. The team still wanted Arnott to practice, but Arnott took offense, saying he wouldn’t practice if he wasn’t going to be playing in the team’s games.

It’s really not surprising Arnott now has a new contract. Given the shortened schedule and the fact he has provided some decent offense, it was only a matter of time until he landed in a new home. For Arnott, the Rangers will be his fourth team in four years.

UPDATE: Arnott failed his physical. While it may have been due to a lingering injury, one has to wonder if Arnott’s work ethic (or lack of one as we saw at the end of his run with STL) was the true reason behind his contract falling through.
