There are big saves in a game and then there’s the save that Jaroslav Halak made in the final minute of the third period to preserve a win against the Columbus Blue Jackets. As the Blues attempted to kill off a penalty, Columbus pulled their goalie, creating a 6-on-4. Columbus fired numerous shots, one which deflected high into the air after Halak had dropped to the ice. The result, seen above, was phenomenal.
While he has on his back, Halak reached up and snagged the puck out of the air. The whole play was pretty bizarre, all things considered, and resembled something from a baseball drill as opposed to a key save in a hockey game. It’s not only incredible that Halak was able to find the puck in all of the commotion, but it’s also pretty remarkable that the puck wasn’t hit out of the air by one of the numerous sticks in the vicinity.
As if the save on his back wasn’t impressive enough, Halak followed it up with a couple other strong stops before the period and the game ultimately ended.
