Doug Armstrong Scouting TOR/PHI
Typically, I try to stay as far away from the rumor scene as possible. However, while I refuse to create any rumors like some folks out there (e5), I do enjoy my fair share of speculation. St. Louis GM Doug Armstrong has been appearing in some noteworthy places of late which has the the rumor mill churning. A few weeks back, Armstrong was in attendance for a Toronto/Philadelphia game on the same night the Blues were playing at Scottrade. If this was an isolated incident, not much would be thought of it. However, it turns out Armstrong was in attendance in Philadelphia when the Flyers took on the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday, the 26th. Obviously, Armstrong has his eye on someone (or someones) in the PHI or TOR organization. It's safe to assume this is more than a passing interest as 1) Armstrong attended these games personally and 2) he has been seen now on multiple occasions scouting the same two teams. It's also safe to assume his interest is in a player at the NHL level, not only because he's watching two NHL teams but mainly because the Blues are just a hair above the salary cap floor and can't dish out contracts without taking one on. If a deal was to go down, I think the Blues would acquire an NHL player (or two) and give up either minor league players or picks. As for names of players that might fit this bill, your guess is as good as mine.
