Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big story line. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.
“I think his future is bright, I think someone will be getting a hungry veteran who’s still in the prime of his career,” Dooling said. “We’re talking about one of the most unselfish players in the league in his selfish ways. It’s like an anomaly. He’s the most unselfish player in the world on the court but for some reason he has a selfish image. I’m biased because that’s my friend, but I just don’t get it.”.
…“I think if you talk to any of Rondo’s teammates, who wasn’t a max [salary] player, a fellow All-Star, I guarantee you they will all love him,” Dooling said. “Because he was a man of the people. He was more touchable as a teammate than most All-Stars. So this perception that the media has created of him, his teammates don’t feel that same way.”
…“His future is going to be bright, most good players in this league are going to want to play with him,” Dooling said. “Also, the fit in Dallas wasn’t good. You have to have a backcourt that plays off of one another. Those guys [Rondo and shooting guard Monta Ellis] both play similar in that they have to have the ball in order to make an impact. I don’t think that situation was great.”
Keyon’s opinion is certainly a wise one, and Rondo is lucky to have him on his side after what went down in Dallas. He’s right on some accounts here — Rondo is still in his twenties, and he is still an unselfish player in a sea of ball-needy superstars. But the flaws in his game and his stubbornness still should present a problem this summer. On top of that, team’s that need a point guard remain thin — outside of the Knicks, Lakers, and Kings, there aren’t any real suitors at Rondo’s market price. And even among those three, which team would be willing to pay what he’s seeking? And at what point does a clearly stubborn Rondo give in and sign a low ball offer?
Does he — or would he consider something radical like playing overseas? For three times the cash and the ability to call all his own sets on the court, it may be worth considering. Surely his talent is too good to drop out of the NBA for an inferior league, but I just don’t see a team giving him what he’ll want, even more so now after his latest stint with a top NBA coach. If I’m GM of one of those three teams, do I sign Rondo knowing that coaches may not want to stay/come here because of him?
Rondo’s last contract was pretty modest and ended up being team-friendly for most of the years. Maybe money matters less to him and he’ll join Kobe this summer to be assholes together. Or conversely, maybe he’s at a point where he wants to secure one last payday, wherever that may be.
Page 2: Hawks creates phony petition to ban banked-in game winners

//platform.twitter.com/widgets.jsThe Hawks (jokingly) have reached out to the Cavs’ via twitter to try and get this anti-bank game winner petition moving. Much like what Pierce did to the Hawks last night, Derrick Rose hit a similar shot to beat the Cavs in game three Friday night. From a Celtic fan’s point of view, between getting to watch Pierce hit a game winner and see LeBron lose via game winner — this ended up being a pretty good weekend. So no, I will not be signing this petition, Atlanta.
Also props to NBA teams this year for turning their Twitter handles into more than just news outlets. The Celtics stay pretty quiet, which is fine — I don’t see a team like ours making jokes about killing horses (even though Rockets firing their PR guys was way overboard). But besides that incident, the general interactions between teams has been pretty entertaining. You can see a ranking of all 30 teams here.
And finally, Ainge offers support for Tom Brady
Boston Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge, an ardent observer of Boston’s other professional sports teams, utilized social media to offer support for New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady in the wake of the Wells Report.
Wrote Ainge on Thursday: “Tom Brady is one of the greatest players, one of the greatest leaders and one of the greatest winners of this generation with any football.”

Pretty much sums it up.
