NBA GM’s have almost no love for the Celtics this year

The annual GM Survey… or probably, more accurately, survey of some GM’s but mostly their assistants… is out today. And the first thing that will stand out to Celtics fans is how General Managers completely disagree with all the wins the algorithms are predicting.

Nary a Boston pick in sight here. In fact the only Celtic who garnered more than an “also receiving votes” mention was Isaiah Thomas

Bear in mind, there are a lot of questions about coaching here, and Brad Stevens is regarded as the Celtics big “star” at the moment. But he wasn’t mentioned when asked who the best manager/motivator of people was (but Philly’s Brett Brown was, presumably for successfully managing to prevent members of the team from committing suicide over the past few years). Stevens did get at least an “also receiving votes” in the best offensive and best defensive schemes.

The biggest problem comes when the questions turn to the NBA’s best defensive players, and neither Avery Bradley nor Marcus Smart are mentioned among the best perimeter defenders. That’s not necessarily because I feel they were snubbed… the problem is that they, especially Bradley, haven’t done enough to be mentioned in this context. I’m most disappointed in Bradley for not being good enough to get here.

Let’s be clear, he didn’t deserve to be here at all after last season. I hope someone shows this to him and it motivates him to become that tenacious defender again.

Side note: 86% of GM’s said they’d most want to start an NBA franchise with Anthony Davis. I 100% agree with them. Welcome to the beginning of the next era of NBA superstars.
