It looks like Division-3 reject Brad Stevens can coach after all… because he was just named Eastern Conference Coach of the Month by the NBA.
Stevens led the Celtics to the best record in the Eastern Conference (9-3) in February, which included a 6-0 mark at TD Garden. The Celtics scored 100-plus points in 10 of 12 games and led the conference in scoring at 110.8 points. Boston recorded wins against the Cleveland Cavaliers and Miami Heat, and enters March with the East’s third-best record (36-25).
Portland’s Terry Stotts won in the West.
Stevens’ coaching record currently stands at 101-124… so we’re looking at him reaching the .500 mark sometime in November of next season. By Christmas, we’ll all look back and laugh at how Brad the wunderkind could have ever been under .500.
As always when we post something like this, I want to send a sincere shout out to Doc Rivers for bailing on Boston. Without your staunch refusal to go through another rebuild, we would not have seen this kind of upgrade.
Have fun trading Blake Griffin away in July in a desperate attempt to get past San Antonio, OKC, and… who’s that other team?… the one with that guy… the one that shoots all those 3’s?
