Backes, Oshie and Shattenkirk named to Team USA

It's official: David Backes, T.J. Oshie and Kevin Shattenkirk will represent the United States during the 2014 Winter Olympics. The trio were named to the team following the Winter Classic held at Michigan Stadium.

Backes and Shattenkirk were obvious selections, but it was unclear if Oshie would make the cut considering the amount of potential options the team had to choose from. When the final announcement was made, Oshie made the cut and will now compete in his first Winter Olympics.

This will also be the first Winter Olympics for Kevin Shattenkirk. For Backes, this marks the second time he has worn the red, white and blue during a Winter Olympics.

The trio representing the USA are just a few of the numerous players on the roster who should – barring injury – represent their country in Sochi.
