The folks at Yardbarker and Blogs with Balls/Hugging Harold Reynolds recently asked me to help out with a promotional video they were making for TMobile. They spent time in 5 cities with 5 NBA players… and one of those stops was in Boston with Brian Scalabrine.
Check out the dishwasher at about the :40 mark. Yep, that's me, making my little cameo. I must have washed those dishes 50 times. Cleanest dishes in the joint. I'll let the boys at BwB explain the setting:
In early April, Celtics big man Brian Scalabrine treated us to
breakfast at Piccolo Nido in Boston’s North End – the city’s Little
Italy section.
The venue has a place in Celtics history and lore (if not only in the
mind of its owner, Pino Irano). After a cultural lesson about the
neighborhood and the venue, Pino launched into a spiel about how he
warded off evil spirits around the Celtics that eventually led to their
championship run in 2008. To hear him tell it, Doc Rivers has bought
into the superstition and frequents the venue, particularly around
playoff time. Pino went ahead and performed a blessing on Scal which
involved sage, a pouch of unknown (allegedly religious) items, salt and a
kiss. You truly needed to be there to experience.
Luckily, I was there to experience it. And here it is:
Good stuff. That dude Pino is one-of-a-kind. You can see more of the blessing if you click on that Versus player in the right column of the site.
There's also a great audio interview with Scal over at HHR in which he discusses the C's chances
"I believe this team is
super built for the playoffs…We might not have the best player like
LeBron James or Kobe Bryant, but we have the most talent top-to-bottom
and that’s what you need – you need players to make plays in the
playoffs…"The team that’s gonna win – 2 teams equal talent is
the team that’s going to make less mistakes than the next team. You’ve
got to be able to execute game plans. Veteran teams can do that."
Who are we to argue with Brian Scalabrine?
