Four Blues return home with medals from Sochi

The 2014 Winter Olympics are over. Four members of the St. Louis Blues are returning to St. Louis with an Olympic medal in hand. Jay Bouwmeester and Alex Pietrangelo are bringing gold medals back home while Alexander Steen and Patrik Berglund are returning with silver medals.

Overall, it was an extremely impressive showing by the St. Louis Blues in Sochi. Four of the team's 10 representatives took home a medal and several others (David Backes, T.J. Oshie) had a memorable Olympic games despite finishing off the podium.

First, a big congratulations to Bouwmeester and Pietrangelo. While it's hard to congratulate them as an American, it's an awesome accomplishment. Steen and Berglund also deserve some praise for their second place finish. These two flew under the radar on Sweden (at least the coverage of Sweden was lacking in America), but silver medals are still extremely impressive.

Next, let's all be thankful that all of the Olympic participants are returning to St. Louis without any serious injuries. The group may be a bit banged up and bruised, but no one suffered an injury on par with John Tavares which will likely sideline him for the remainder of the 2013-14 NHL season. As nice as it is to see several Blues winning medals, player health was always a higher priority.

With that, it's time to close the book on the Olympics. That means it's back to hating the Blackhawks, rooting for members of Team Canada (Bouwmeester & Pietrangelo) and dissecting the constant Ryan Miller to St. Louis trade rumors.
