Jake Allen quietly had an outstanding season with the Chicago Wolves of the AHL. While Blues fans had their attention locked on the goaltending situation at the NHL level after the Blues made a major trade to bring in Ryan Miller, Allen closed out a stellar campaign which resulted him in being named the AHL’s best netminder as judged by coaches, players and members of the media in the league’s 30 cities.

Allen’s season looked something like this:
32-16-3, 2.07 GAA, .927 SV% (51 games)

That’ll do. The regular season wraps up this weekend, but Allen is currently sitting first in the AHL in the following categories:
– Wins
– GAA
– Save percentage
– Minutes played
– Shutouts (tied for first)

The future is bright. The Blues will have a tough decision to make in regards to Allen as 2014-15 draws closer. He has bested competition at the AHL level and is more than deserving of an NHL role, at least in a backup capacity. However, the goaltending situation in St. Louis is up in the air considering Miller and Brian Elliott are in the final year of their current contract.
