Jake Allen will finally have his chance to prove himself at the NHL level in 2014-15. Barring any major surprises, he’ll start the year as the secondary option behind Brian Elliott. Though he made a brief cameo in 2012-13, Allen will find himself in a regular role for the first time this season.
While some goaltenders might be frustrated to be in the backup role to start the year, Allen is thrilled. At 23, his career is taking a big step forward and he couldn’t be more excited. Specifically, he’s eager to learn from the man who is expected to be the starting netminder for the Blues this season.
Here’s what Allen told CBC.ca:
“I know going into the season that it’s me and Brian Elliott, a great goalie I respect, I admire, and I’ve learned a lot from in the past few years.
So I’m looking forward to just going there, and compete for some starts and hopefully learn some more from him.”
That’s the exact attitude you want to see in a young goaltender.
