I often wonder what opposing teams, their beat reporters and bloggers are saying about the Celtics after playing the Celtics. Here's a dose of 'enemy chatter' from Philadelphia.
Following Iguodala's lay-up the Celtics called a timeout, during which I kept saying to myself "Do not leave Ray Allen, Do not leave Ray Allen!"
The Celtics came out of the timeout and Ray Allen was in the far corner, being smothered by Jodie Meeks, who looked like someone (probably Collins, or the same voices who were in my head) just got all up in his face and screamed "Do not leave Ray Allen! Do you hear me!?!" Meeks took heed to the imaginary voices and became part of Allen's jersey for the final 6.6 seconds.
Turns out Allen was just a decoy.
Not to take anything away from Doc Rivers' play calling, but this is the beauty of the Celtics. So many weapons. Ask Jrue Holiday, he had no clue what was coming:
"I got hit by a screen, and K.G. rolled," said Holiday, who had 12 points and six assists. "I wasn't trying to front him. I got hit by a screen. I should have grabbed him or something, but it was kind of unexpected.
"We don't know [what Boston was going to do]. They have so many scorers in Paul Pierce and K.G. and Ray Allen out there. You really don't know. They have too many options."
"Everything happened so fast," explained Sixers coach Doug Collins. "Garnett is rolling to the basket and they put four shooters out there. . . . Obviously, we would have liked to have somebody make a jump shot, but it just happened so quickly. That's the difference between a championship team and a team that's cutting its teeth."
"Any time you get beat on the last play that's a layup, it's a kick in the gut," Collins said.
Sorry Doug. It's nothing personal, just business.
