The St. Louis Blues put on another impressive performance against the Washington Capitals on Saturday night, cruising to a 4-1 victory. The game featured long stretches of play where the Blues controlled the pace of the game and contained the Capitals within their own zone. The Capitals haven’t played like a Cup contender so far in 2014-15 and that was made immediately clear as the Blues coasted to a relatively easy win.

Following the game, the Capitals had some big praise for the Blues.

As seen in the Washington Post, Matt Niskanen commented on the Blues:

“Tonight we saw what a real contender looked like. They showed us what it takes to be an elite team. We had a few chances we could’ve capitalized on but for the most part they took us to school.”

Teams around the NHL are taking note. After winning 10 of their last 11, the Blues have climbed to the top of the Central Division and have the league buzzing.
