The St. Louis Blues have invited Martin Brodeur to practice following the Brian Elliott injury. Earlier the Blues announced that Elliott would be out with a lower-body injury and that Jordan Binnington would be called up. This seemed like a temporary fix and it wasn’t long before the speculation started suggesting the Blues may need outside help.
BREAKING: #stlblues announce that goaltender Martin Brodeur will be at Friday's practice on a tryout basis.

Before we get too carried away, this is simply a tryout. The Blues are at least interested in what Brodeur still has left at age 42. This doesn’t mean Elliott is out for the year, but it does indicate that he’s expected to miss at least a decent chunk of time. That may be weeks or months, but it’s apparently expected to be long enough that the Blues feel they need to give Jake Allen some help.
Friday should be an interesting day. Should the tryout go well and Elliott’s diagnosis to fall into the long-term range, we may see Brodeur in blue (weird!) in the near future.
