The Hockey News ranked NHL fighters by their weight class and the results were pretty interesting. Ryan Reaves was classified in the Middleweight class which is composed of players who are between 211 and 224 pounds. Reaves, who is officially listed at 224 pounds, earned the top ranking in the Middleweight class.
Here’s the breakdown from THN:
The son of a football player, Reaves has an enormous upper body more fitting for a linebacker than the running back position his dad played. The burly right winger doesn’t play much for the Blues on a nightly basis, but he makes his impact felt when he’s out there: Reaves leads the team in hits by a wide margin despite getting the least amount of ice time. And when it comes to fighting, the Winnipeg native has some serious stopping power with his punches.
The above isn’t totally accurate as Reaves’ role has been expanded and he has seen some time on the third line. That doesn’t mean Reaves is seeing a ton of time, but he plays a more significant role compared to other names on the list (John Scott was named the top Super Heavyweight fighter).
