Brian Elliott closing in on franchise shutout record

Brian Elliott’s shutout of the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday night gave the goaltender 28 shutouts in his career and 19 with the St. Louis Blues. Elliott’s mark of 19 shutouts with St. Louis places him one behind Jaroslav Halak for the most shutouts in franchise history.

Taking a look at some of the names on the list, it’s kind of remarkable that two recent netminders own the top-2 spots. While this is a testament to the skill of Elliott and Jaroslav Halak, it’s also a big complement to the defensive unit playing in front of them. Shutouts are a team effort.

Elliott has three shutouts through 21 games played in 2014-15. Assuming he stays healthy, he should have no problem matching and eventually besting Halak’s record.
