Ken Hitchcock reiterates Brian Elliott is the starter

It’s that time of the year where every coaching decision is met with questions and speculation. Such was the case when Jake Allen started consecutive games to complete the Blues’ recent road trip. Is Allen the new number one? Has Ken Hitchcock lost his confidence in Brian Elliott. Simply, no and no.

Hitchcock discussed the matter, as seen on STLToday:

“Ells is the starter. Jake got rewarded for an exceptional performance (in a 2-1 overtime loss to Detroit Sunday). We’ll go right back to Ells. He’ll play the majority of games leading up to the playoffs. We’re on the course that we set two months ago when we made the decision that Ells was going to be the guy and we’re not changing that course.”

Will Hitchcock’s comments squash the speculation? Of course not, but they do offer some insight as to what the Blues plan to do prior to the playoffs. Barring an injury or some sort of disastrous play from Elliott, there’s really no questioning who will man the net for the Blues in the playoffs.
