The T.J. Oshie trade will continue to receive all of the attention, but the Blues went out and made a solid signing Thursday night by inking Kyle Brodziak to a one-year deal. Brodziak most recently skated with the Minnesota Wild and had 20 points across 73 regular season games. The Blues were seeking a bit of depth and Brodziak should fit that bill on the fourth line.
This likely signals the end of Marcel Goc’s brief stay with the Blues. Goc skated in 31 regular season games (one goals, two assists and a -1) and four playoff games (zero points, -1). It may be a stretch to call Brodziak a significant upgrade over Goc, but he is the better player and is an improvement at the position.
It’s a bit early to speculate how players will line up in 2015-16, but Brodziak should man the fourth line with Ryan Reaves and Steve Ott barring any additional moves. This would mean playing two centers on the same line (Ott and Brodziak), but Ott has proven he’s comfortable sliding outside like we saw when Goc was brought in.
