Flyers sign Chris Porter

Chris Porter’s run with the St. Louis Blues has ended. The Philadelphia Flyers announced they have signed Porter to a one-year, two-way contract believed to be worth $700,000 at the NHL level and $100,000 at the AHL level.

Porter has spent his entire professional career skating within the St. Louis organization. He joined the Peoria Rivermen back in 2007-08 after playing for the University of North Dakota for four seasons. Between 2007-08 and 2014-15, Porter was shipped up and down from the Blues and their AHL affiliate. Porter appeared in a total of 173 NHL games and tallied 11 goals and 16 assists.

Though Porter wasn’t a huge player in the Blues’ offense, he was a valuable member of the third and fourth line. Fans will surely remember his contributions on the CPR line with Ryan Reaves and Adam Cracknell as well as his ability to slide in and provide a boost of speed whenever the team called on his number.

It was clear the Blues were ready to move on from Porter after bringing in Kyle Brodziak and re-signing Magnus Paajarvi. Porter has always been a player you can’t help but root for and here’s hoping he finds a more fixed role with the Flyers.
