Ty Rattie has another chance to prove himself while Jaden Schwartz is out

POOP

Jaden Schwartz suffered a freak injury during practice, slipping and crashing into the post. Schwartz was unable to put any weight on his leg and the Blues wasted no time in calling up Ty Rattie. As the injuries continue to mount across the roster, Rattie is thrust into a position to finally prove himself at the NHL level.

The Blues have been pretty unlucky with their injuries, but they’ve been able to keep on winning thanks to Vladimir Tarasenko (of course) and the strong play from talented rookies. Rattie was bested by Robby Fabbri (among others) in camp, but now he’s being called on to help out while the Blues figure out what’s going on with Schwartz.

As I’ve said before, it’s too early to give up on Rattie. Other youngsters may have passed him by, but he hasn’t played under ideal circumstances when called up to the NHL level. Granted, he could have claimed a role this year in camp, but his time at the NHL level has seen him skate on some pretty ugly line combinations. That may once again be the case, but one would hope he’s able to do a bit more with the playing time he’s given.

Rattie could still evolve into a player the Blues use on a regular basis, or, at the very least be a strong weapon to call on from the minors. Fans have expressed their concern – and even disappointment – in how he has progressed, but there’s still time for Rattie to elevate his game. His next opportunity comes on Saturday while Schwartz is on the mend.
