Jaden Schwartz out for at least 3 months

The Blues early injuries are starting to reach an absurd level. Paul Stastny is out at least five weeks with a broken foot. Now, Jaden Schwartz is expected to miss at least three months after fracturing his foot during practice.

The word “unlucky” will inevitably be thrown around and rightfully so. Schwartz suffered his injury in practice and it reportedly occurred without any contact from a player or a puck. If the Stastny news was bad, this Schwartz news is devastating. Schwartz is such an important player for the Blues and he falls squarely in the “irreplaceable” category.

Of course, the worst part of this news is the timeline which sounds like it may extend well past the initial 12-week deadline. The re-evaluation comes in January. His actual return to the ice may be even after that, which means he’ll miss a significant chunk of the Blues’ season.

So, how can the Blues cope with these injuries? As mentioned, Schwartz can’t be replaced. The Blues already called up Ty Rattie, but the pressure will be on more than just Rattie to keep the Blues afloat until some of their best players return from injury. It won’t be easy (especially considering the schedule for December) and the Blues will need even more from their rookies and veterans.

It’s not time to wave the white flag yet, but things are definitely going to be tough for the next few months.
